Why Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang doesn’t wear a watch and wait for world to come to him

During a recent tech event, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang shared his unique outlook on time, explaining why he chooses not to wear a watch. For him, the present is what matters most. “Few people know this, but I don’t wear a watch. The reason is that now is the most important time,” he said.

Huang went on to say he’s not driven by traditional ambition. Instead of seeking more, he aims to improve what he already has. “I’m not striving for more—I wait for the world to come to me,” he explained.

Discussing Nvidia’s strategy, Huang mentioned that the company doesn’t follow a long-term master plan. “We have no grand plan. Our idea of a long-term plan is simply: What are we doing today?” he remarked.

The video of his talk was posted by @entrepreneursonig on Instagram, captioned with a reflection of his philosophy: “Doing more is easy; doing less is hard.”

In 2023, Huang also shared a story that influenced his perspective—a conversation with a Japanese gardener who carefully maintained a temple garden in Kyoto. Despite the heat, garden size, and his simple tools, the gardener managed everything with patience. When asked how, he responded, “I have plenty of time.”

Huang reflected on this, saying, “This is the best career advice I can give: Now is the most important time—just focus on the present.” He added, “I’m not someone who’s constantly chasing things. I focus on now, and I enjoy my work.”
